ABOUT

There are 400+ Chicago Booth alumni in India, making a difference as corporate executives, entrepreneurs, investors, and change agents in various industries and sectors.

The annual Pan-India Booth Alumni Retreat (Pibar), hosted in a different city each year, brings a sizable fraction of them together, for a weekend of networking, learning, and fun. Earlier editions were held in Delhi (2012 & 2014), Mumbai (2013), Bengaluru (2015), and Goa (2016).

This year, we're continuing with the well-received extended format introduced last year: Of making the retreat a day longer (Friday evening to midday Sunday) and inviting spouses/significant others and kids also to attend, with family-friendly activities to engage them.

Back to Booth Course

Take advantage of a continuing-education opportunity: An optional Back to Booth classroom course, "Designing a Good Life," on Friday, 27 Oct 2017 (10am – 5:30pm), before the evening kick-off of Pibar. (Separate registration is required for Back to Booth; see below.)

Nicholas Epley, John Templeton Keller Professor of Behavioral Science at Chicago Booth, has graciously agreed to fly into Chennai just to offer this all-day classroom course that draws on his research and courses on social cognition, perspective taking, and intuitive human judgment.

Designing a Good Life

This course rests on the simple assumption that you want to live a "good life," in three senses of the word. First, "good" in the sense of being successful. Second, "good" in the sense of being ethical and honorable. Third, "good" in the sense of feeling good, living a life rich in happiness, meaning, purpose, and well-being. If you wanted to increase your odds of living a good life in all three senses, what would you do? If you wanted to lead an organization that not only did well but did "good," how would you lead it? If you wanted to manage a team that also lived a good life, how should you manage them?

The goal of this course is to change the way you think about yourself and others, giving you insights and tools that help you design a good life for both yourself and others.

Timings are subject to change. Please check again going into Pibar weekend.

LOCATION

Chennai

A sleepy city until the 1980s, even while being the 4th largest in India, Chennai today is a bustling blend of the traditional and the contemporary. Popularly known as the land of temples and filter coffee, Chennai is also the largest cultural, educational, and economic center in south India. It was the only Indian city to feature on The New York Times' list of 52 Places to Go in 2014 (it was #26), on Lonely Planet's list of Top Ten Cities for 2015 (#9), and National Geographic's list of the Top 10 Food Cities (#2) in the world.

Here's The Madras Song , a 4-minute-long tribute to Chennai (previously known as Madras):

Venue

Pibar 2017 will be held at the Radisson Blu Resort Temple Bay, a breezy beach-side resort (set over 44 manicured acres) in Mamallapuram, a Unesco World Heritage Site, about 55 km south of Chennai airport.

Topographical map of the Radisson Blu Resort Temple Bay, with session venues highlighted in yellow:

The Back to Booth course (10am–5:30pm, Friday, 27 Oct 2017) will be held at the ITC Grand Chola, a short drive away from Chennai airport.
Course attendees who have also registered for Pibar will be shuttled to the resort in time for the Friday evening reception.
