ABOUT

There are 400+ Chicago Booth alumni in India, making a difference as corporate executives, entrepreneurs, investors, and change agents in various industries and sectors.

The annual Pan-India Booth Alumni Retreat (PiBar), hosted in a different city each year, brings a sizable fraction of them together, for a weekend of networking, learning, and fun. Earlier editions were held in Delhi (2012 & 2014), Mumbai (2013), Bengaluru (2015), Goa (2016), Chennai (2017), and Lonavala (2018).

Between 150 and 200 people (from 20+ metros and 7+ countries) attended each of the last two retreats. As before, spouses/significant others and kids are also welcome to attend PiBar 2019, with family-friendly activities to engage them.

Choosing Leadership

Prof. Linda Ginzel, Clinical Professor of Managerial Psychology at Chicago Booth, has graciously agreed to give a live, interactive lecture by video conference on Sunday morning, Nov 3, while staying up and on campus late at night in Chicago.

Prof. Ginzel specializes in negotiation skills, managerial psychology, leadership, and executive development. Her recent interest is focused on what she terms Leadership Capital: the courage, wisdom and capacity to decide when to manage and when to lead. The subject of her lecture: Choosing Leadership, which is also the title of her new book.

About the book

Choosing Leadership is a new take on executive development that gives everyone the tools to develop their leadership skills. It is not for reading about leadership. It is for doing. The workbook will help you develop your individualized, customized wisdom and be your companion on the road to being wiser, younger.

Thoughtful exercises and activities help you mine your own experiences, learn to recognize behavior patterns, and make better choices so that you can create better futures. You'll learn how to:

  • Define leadership for yourself and move beyond stereotypes
  • Distinguish between leadership and management and when to use each skill
  • Recognize the gist of a situation and effectively communicate it with others
  • Learn from the experience of others as well as your own
  • Identify your "default settings" and become your own coach
  • And much more!
